Snacks in Beijing,Sugar-coated Haws on a Stick
1 min read
Sugar-coated Haws,is a traditional snack of China, especially Beijing. It is made by first putting cleaned haws on a prod, then dipped it into syrup stewed by crystal sugar and water, and finally taken out and dried.
The bright, lovely haws on the prod look like a string of small red lanterns, with a sweet and sour taste. The outer layer of sugar is crisp, but the haws are soft.
Although traditionally this snack only uses haws, nowadays they also have sugar-coated yam, chufa, grape, orange, and walnut kernel. But Sugar-coated Haws is the most authentic, and helps digestion while rich in Vitamin C and E.
In old days,Sugar-coated Haws can be bought from street peddlers everywhere.Times have changed, and you need to visit a certain shop now for it.
