Sun Quan was the founder of the Wu Kingdom.He was the second son of Sun Jian ，who was a brave general of the Han Dynasty.Sun Jian died young and let his son Sun Ce to continue his cause.Sun Quan followed his brother Sun Ce to battles at a young age of fourteen.Then，Sun Quan took over Jiangdong after the death of his brother Sun Ce.
With the help of the great general Zhou Yu ，Sun Quan defeated Cao Cao with Liu Bei in the Battle of the Red Cliff（Chibi），splitting China three ways.Sun Quan fought Cao Cao on the north and Liu Bei on the west，he was considered a bright leader.He was the match of Cao Cao and Liu Bei in leadership.Unfortunately，after Sun Quan took the throne，he became self-centered and put his trust in the men around him who were not of noble characters.This eventually led to the fall of his kingdom.
After the Battle of Chibi，Liu Bei easily took Jingzhou，animportant military position，which was also desired by Sun Quan and Cao Cao.Sun Quan believed that Jingzhou should belong to him，for it was he who defeated Cao Cao but Liu Bei took the opportunity，he acted as the cat’s paw.He asked LiuBei to return it to him.Liu Bei promised to do so but found various excuses to keep the place.He sent Guan Yu，his best general to garrison the city.
Many times Sun Quan thought of ways to take the city but all failed.Then Zhou Yu，the famous marshal，who defeated Cao Cao at Chibi，planned a trick.They invited Liu Bei to come to Jingdong to marry Sun Quan’s younger sister，Sun Shang Xiang ，a pretty girl who was good at martial art and admired heroes.But Sun Quan was seen through by Zhuge Liang and failed.
The Han Dynasty，after the Qin，was the great empire which lasted for four centuries.It was a prosperous period and it was a time of turbulence，too.It was marked by the cycle of unity and disunity.This social phenomenon is clearly told in the opening sentences，or the introduction，of The Romance of Three Kingdoms:”As for the society under the heaven，long time of unity leads to disunity and long time of disunity leads to unity.”
