The province-level economic development zone was formed after the merger ofJiangxi Anyuan Economic Development Zone and Pingxiang High-tech Industrial Zone. It was renamed Jiangxi Pingxiang Economic Development Zone with the approval of the provincial government in March 2006. It covers an area of 52 square kilometers and has a population of 120,000 including 38,000 rural residents. The planned area is 22 square kilometers. Now the zone has formed the pattern of 14 administrative departments and”One Zone and Three Parks”, that is, East, West and North Industrial Park.

Pingxiang Economic Development Zone enjoys transportation convenience. No.

319 and No.320 State Road cross here, and Shanghai-Ruili Highway runs through it in the north. The zone is only 105 kilometers away from the Huanghua(Yellow Flower) Airport in Changsha, which can be reached within an hour’s drive along the sealed high-grade highway. The zone has complete infrastructure, as it has established Long-distance Passenger-transport Bus Station, North Bus Station and Container Transshipment Center. Besides, it has already achieved the goal of “Seven Supplies and One Leveling”, that is, roadway, water supply, power supply, communications, drainage, pollutant discharge, gas-pipe network and land leveling.

Other public service facilities such as schools, banks, markets and hotels are under construction. In a word, an open and multi-functional new urban area for manufacture, trade, culture and entertainment is coming into being. Additionally, Pingxiang Municipal Bureau of Fire, Police, Inspection, Law Court, Post, Insurance, State Taxation, City Taxation, Finance and Traffic all have their officebuildings nestled in the zone for the convenience of investors and corporations.

Since the zone was set up, Pingxiang Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government established strategies to open and develop the economy of the zone, and created more agreeable investment environment to enlarge and absorb foreign investment. In addition, it fortunately got the support of Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee，Provincial Government and the society.Now rapid progress has been achieved.The zone introduced such high-tech projects as Weixin Paint Company with an investment of $ 12 million，Anyuan Pipe Co.，Ltd.with RMB 198 million，Engineering Glass Company with RMB 250 million，Pingxiang Fubo No.2 Factorywith RMB 280 million and Anyuan Air-condition Co.，Ltd.with RMB 70 million，among which Anyuan SteelCo.，Ltd.got the largest investment-RMB 1.6 billion.

In 2004 it was the first time that Pingxiang got more investment capital than Nanchang High-tech Development Zone did.

Up to now，Pingxiang Economic Development Zone has brought in 192 enterprises，and primarily set up the leading industries of metallurgy，buildingmaterial，pharmacy，industrial porcelains，coach manufacture and auto parts，which effectively boost the development of the local economy.In the year of 2005 the GDP of the zone has achieved RMB 2.5 billion，Gross Industrial Output Value RMB 6.95 billion，and financial revenue RMB 451 million.
