The Niuheliang tomb complex

2 min read

Jinniu Man(prehistoric human ancestor) was discovered here.

Reaching back a bit further to around 5 50 years before the Great Wall, the Great Sage of China, Confucius was born setting off what would become a philosophical and social movement that permeates much of the thinking in and about China. Around the same time, the Indian prince who became known to the world as the Buddha was also born in this period. Not to be outdone, the birth and life of Lao Tzu, the founder of Taoism began just a few decades before. On a side note, these philosophies and religions came to dominate the thinking of China a good 500 years before the birth of Christ and the common era of modern Western culture.

While by no means meant to exclude the many great events both in and outside of China it merely serves to give some context to just how far back China, and the rest of the world’s culture really extends. Some 5,000 years ago culture was already formed in many places around the world. The ancient pyramids of Egypt and Stonehenge had taken shape around the point of reference. Ancient texts are appearing in abundance with the advent ofdiffering writing styles and pictograms. Early religions that come to dominate the Westernworld begin to form alongside more polytheistic and pagan forms of worship. How this plays into the early history and culture of Liaoning Province is rather interesting.

Like many archaeological finds in China, the happy accidents of discovery in modern times either by farmers, land developers and actual scientists have given insight into what were once thought of as lost cultures in areas that were not thought of having strongholds of cultural value.
