Yingkou Xiongyue Hot Spring Resort
Yingkou’s premiere hot springs resort is one of the best examples of how the hot springs industry is looking to create an oasis within a city. This large complex features luxurious private day rooms and hotel rooms for longer stays, suites, meeting rooms and all of the hotel-style amenities that anyone would want. At the time of my visit they were even planning a larger expansion of more luxury rooms to accommodate the influx of high-end visitors. The resort is well worth the trip as it is one of the best laid out hot springs spas I have visited.
From the first step inside the entrance you feel like you are in a five star hotel. There is a large open view of the gardens and water therapy zone, soft warm light flowing in from the traditional style lanterns and attendants ready to serve. Whether you are just coming for the day, as many people do, or part of a larger business junket, the more common groups of guests, the draw of the resort is the over abundance of different water pools.
Yingkou Xiongyue Hot Spring Resort is broken up into three main sections. The large indoor swimming and lounging area is the first to greet you as you come out of the changing area and is the most popular. Here they have constructed a near-Olympic sized swimming pool. Large and serpentine wading pools carve out the rest of area under the enclosed structure. While in the pools you can sit or lie under different water spouts for differenttherapies. There are rain curtain setups that gently shower sheets of hot spring water over all of your body. The shallow pools have underwater high pressure nozzles, similar to Jacuzzi-style hot tubs, that you can sit up against to really work on your sore back, shoulders or leg muscles. There is even a walking pool with a pebble stone floor for stimulating the acupressure points on the bottom of your feet. When I first saw this and was told to walk along the top of the rather large but smooth pebbles I was not for it, it looked like it would hurt. However, the smooth rock faces and the close proximity of the stones really do feelgood on the bottom of your feet and this type of therapy is extremely popular in China.
