“Happy Farmers Home” of Yanjiatai Village

Guandi was one of the first villages in Huairou District to begin folk—custom tourism,also dubbed as “Happy Farmer’s Home.”

 At present, 40 of the village’s households, equippedwith complete service facilities, are engaged in tourist reception, capable of accommodating500 people at the same time. In recent years, along with the development of folk-customtourism, the village has established fishing pools, a bonfire ground, and barbecue sites.

Toattract urban tourists, they especially present organic food cooked in rural ways, characterizedby baked corn pancake, steamed com bun, corn porridge, and wild mountain vegetables.During the Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, the farmers‘ homes attract citydwellers to celebrate the holiday by making dumplings, decorating windows with traditionalpaper-cuts, pasting New Year couplets on the gate, and setting off firecrackers.

In February 2005, the Rural Affairs Committee of the Beijing Municipal Government,the Beijing Municipal Commission of Rural Affairs and the Beijing Municipal PersonnelBureau jointly cited Guandi Village as a “Model in Tourism Development in Beijing Suburbs.”

On February 18, 2006, CCTV News broadcast a documentary detailing the achievements ofGuandi Village in improving farmers’ living quality and increasing their incomes throughexpanding investment in infrastructure construction.
