Four traditional therapies for traditional Chinese medicine

1 min read

Traditional Chinese Medicine perceives the human organism and its processes as flows of Qi,somewhat like the currents in a sea.The major currents are meridians.

In addition, there are two important channels:the Governor Vessel and the Conception Vessel. The former runs along from the end of the spinal column and reaches the head, which meets all the Yang meridians and is responsible for governing the Qi flow of all the Yang meridians of the body, while the latter goes along the middle of the abdomen and chest, passes through the cheek and enters under the eye socket, which meets all the Yin meridians and is responsible for receiving and bearing the Qi of the Yin meridians.

By stimulating certain points of the body surface, the flow of Qi and Blood can be regulated and diseases are thus treated. These stimulation points are called acupuncture points,or acupoints, which are distributed along the twelve meridians, the Governor Vessel and the Conception Vessel, amounting to 361 in total. The meridian theory has been the guiding principle for the clinical practice in TCM,particularly in acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping and massage.
