This tourist zone covers a land area of 220 square kilometers and a water area of 300 square kilometers with about 60 kilometers of lakeline. Huzhou Tai Lake Tourist Resorts were set up on the southern shore of Tai Lake in 1995, lying 8 kilometers away from the north of the city proper. Tai Lake is the third largest fresh water lake in China, and has beautiful sceneries. On the southern shore of Tai Lake, there are developments including South Tai Lake Tourist Resort, Xianshan Mountain Tourist Resort, Huanhu Tourist and Agricultural Sightseeing Area, and Yangxijin Lakeshore Tourist Vacation Village.
