Ulungur Lake
2 min readThe vast and rippling Ulungur Lake is one of China’s top ten freshwater lakes, whose name means “the place where cloud and mist rise”. The lake has a water area of over 1 ,000km2. It is 14km west of Fuhai County, and the Provincial Rd 318 runs through it. The lake is divided into two major parts, which are Dahaizi (Buluntuo Sea) and Xiaohaizi (Zhelekule Lake), connected by the Kele River in between.
The renowned “Wild Fish Banquet”, the harmonious coexistence between men and animals, charming seaside amorous feelings and the charming scenery of Altay Prairie, weave one and another beautiful tourism and cultural landscape lines, attracting numerous tourists.
Gold Coast in Fuhai County
The southeast coast of Dahaizi is a sandy beach stretching dozens of li formed by soft delicate white quartz sand. The bottom slope declines gently, and the water is crystal clear. The fine sand at the bottom of the lake can be seen clearly in the shoal of 100-200m wide. There are numerous fixed and semi-fixed sand dunes around the lake shore; the lake is an ideal swimming resort, which is praised as”The First Bathing Place in Xinjiang” and”the Gold Coast in Fuhai County”.
Xiaohaizi Resort
Driving southward for 14km from Fuhai County, one will reach the Xiaohaizi Resort Xiaohaizi Resort is located to the south of Dahaizi, and there is a paradise for birds -Thousands of Birds Island in the lake In summer and autumn, there are flocks of wild ducks wandering on the lake, and gulls flying over Even the rare birds such as white swans and spot cranes also pay a frequent visit here. Birds’nests and eggs of various kinds can be seen everywhere on the island; wherever the boat reaches, there will be flocks of birds flying in startle, which is quite dizzying.
Wild Fish Banquet
Ulungur Lake is rich in dozens of rare fishes, such as Zander, Esox lucius, Abramis brama, and Leuciscus baicalensis. The Fuhai wild fish praised as the “pollution-free food” by Xinjiang people is famous inside and outside of Xinjiang. The “Big Plate Wild Fish”is quite delicious and inexpensive, having a unique feature, which is an excellent part of the “Fish Culture”.
