Yunnan
1 min readYunnan Province takes its name from its location to the south of Yunling Mountains. A legend linked to Yunnan dates back to the Han Dynasty. Somebody told the emperor Han Wudi that clouds appeared over the Bai Cliffs. So he sent a group of men to the south of the empire. When they arrived at the county, the clouds came into existence in the south. So they named the county Yunnan, and “Yun” was the abbreviation. Because Kunming is near the ancient Dian Kingdom, Yunnan is also referred to as Dian. It has been a province since the Qing Dynasty. Its capital is Kunming.
