Though Turpan still maintains its traditional bazaar, it pales in comparison to the ones in Kashgar. Once known for its hand-woven, naturally dyed carpets, these are no longer easy to find here. More commonly available are brightly decorated locally produced kniv and traditional hats worn by Uyghur men and women. Locally produced boots and clothing are also available as are synthetic fabrics commonly made into clothing by Turpan’s residents tive here, and other dried goods like walnuts, almonds, dates and figs.

 The bazar on Laocheng Lu is a great place to shop for souvenirs or just while away a few hours. If you have trouble finding it, just say “bazaar” to any local and they’ll point you in the right direction. The night market on the corner of Gaochang and Wenhua Lu Market(tulufan dabazha shi chang which is at Laocheng Lu.
