Camel Bell in the Desert
1 min readXinjiang is in the arid and semiarid zones, so people of the variety of ethnic groups in Xinjiang always possess the custom of raising camels. Because of their capability for high tolerance of hunger and thirst, camels may go through deserts with hundreds of kilograms of things on their backs. Therefore, camels are called “the ship in the desert”.
In ancient times, besides being paidas tributes as large livestock, camels are mainly used for transportation. On the Silk Road, fleets of camels carrying silk, china, tea, paper, etc. walked across the Gobi Desert and mountains and snow ridges, contributing to the cultural exchanges and trading between west and east. With the rapid development of modern transportation such as the construction of highroads and the appearance of cars, camels gradually play a less important role in people’s life.
