The old City of malikewate Relics is located 25km south of the downtown of today’s Hetian, on the west bank of the Yurungkash River.

The old City of Malikewate was an important town on the south road of the silk road in history, prospered in the early Western Han Dynasty and declined in the late ang Dynasty. At the relics, there are ancient tombs and ancient buildings

There are 3 mysterious grottoes behind west sand dunes bronze buddhist sculptures, jade articles, residual clay sculptures, fret wall works, residual mural fragments, pottery and a great number of ancient coils were unearthed from the relics. in 1990, Stein from britain once excavated at the relics for two times to obtain a great number of relics of the Han and Tang Dynasties.

In 1929 and 1957, professor Wenzhou Huang, a Chinese scholar, came here to investigate for two times. He thinks that it was the capital of the hetian kingdom, but most scholars think that it was the temple relics. Now, the old city of Malikewate Relics is the district-level key cultural relic protection unit of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region
