Xinjiang Geology and Mineral Resources Museum

The Xinjiang Geology & Mineral Resources Museum is located in Youhao North Road, Urumqi City. It is a local science & technology propaganda and education institution set up by the state. Its exhibition area is 3,700m2, which is second only to the Beijing Geology & Mineral Resources Museum, rankingthe second in China. The Xinjiang Geology & Mineral Resources Museum is a window for displaying abundant mineral resources in Xinjiang.

The museum is grouped into four exhibition halls: Geological Science&Mineral Resources Hall, Resource Development & Utilization Hall, Geosciences Hall and Flexible Hall. There are over ten thousand of rocks, minerals and ancient biological specimens. The Xinjiang dinosaur skeleton is exhibited here.

With the body length of 4.3m and the body width of 0.8m, the dinosaur is the first dinosaur fossil in Xinjiang for exhibition. The big crystal specimen is 1.75m high with the diagonal width of 0.6m and the weight of 700kg, and it is the biggest crystal exhibited in Xinjiang. And the natural copper specimen is 102kg weight, with the copper content of 99.7%.
