“I know a place, where no one ever goes, There’s peace and quiet, beauty and repose. It’s hidden in a valley, beside a mountain stream, And lying there beside the stream I find that I can dream.”

The culture of the Zhuhai division of Beijing Normal University, dubbed “the most beautiful valley university in Asia”, is self-evident The six gigantic rocks that bear the name of the university in Mao’s cursive script calligraphy form a bold declaration of BNUZ’s pride, while the sweetness of the valley bespeaks its modesty.

The”gateless”ivory tower cuddling at the foot of the gorgeous Fenghuang Mountain is truly a wonderland of “green and bluethat justifiably ranks among the most beautiful campuses in China. Looking out on a breezy summer day, shadows on the hills sketch the trees and golden phoenix blossoms.

In winter, the daily walk between the dorm buildings-nicknamed the”Potala Palace” -and the classrooms is a heavenly stroll in drifting clouds and mists. The winter chills of southern China feel soothing like an artist’s loving hands. The real name of the “Potala Palace” is Jing Hua Yuan, well-known as THE viewing spot for the phantasmagoric spectacle of flaming sunset glow and the dream-like starry sky canopying the”valley campus”.

Nature seems to have chosen the valley for wielding its witchcraft. Every day between 9 o’clock and 10 o’clock, the morning sun streaming down through the glass ceiling of the library produces reflections that look like numerous smiling faces, as if presenting a reward to early risers. Everything in the campus and its surroundings, including the manholes and the name of the university’s Sports Department, is an expression of the romanticism of this “fairytale campus”.

And what best recommends the “fairyland” is the “BNU blue” that infiltrates the sprawling premise. It is the color of the chairs and desks, of Lotus Lake and Dragonfly Bay, and of the swimming pool set in a man-made sand beach.
