“Sgor-gzhas”（Guozhuang）in Chamdo

“Sgor-gzhas”means singing and dancing in a circle.It is mainly popular in Chamdo，in the east of Tibet，and in the Tibetan regions of Sichuan，Qinghai，Yunnan，Gansu and other provinces.”Sgor-gzhas”has different names，such as”Cho，””Sgor-gzhas，””Zhuo-chen，””Guozhuang，and”Gezhuang.”Because”Sgor-gzhas”requires performers to hold the hands of each other，the arm movements are constrained，but the feet movements are robust such as the relaxed and cheerful”back and front taps，”vigorous”stomp and kick，”bold”leg swing”and graceful “marching.”The movements can be slow，rapid or of moderate speed.The performers imitate the postures of an eagle，for example，the approach before flying with”stomp and kick”movements and”waving of hands” and the “eagle flying”in the sky with the movements of “forward steps” and “wings opening.”

“Sgor-gzhas”can be divided into three:”Sgor-gzhas”in the rural areas, in the pasture areas and “Qu Cho”in the monasteries.”Sgor-gzhas” in the rural areas is vigorous and unrestrained while in the pasture areas it is cheerful and robust.”Qu Cho,”on the other hand, is robust, graceful and semi-professional.
