Abundant Water Resources
1 min readWith abundant rainfall and rivers, Guangxi is water-rich. The total length of surface rivers is 34, 000 km, the total water area is about 4, 700 sq km, and its 937 rivers have over 50 sq km of rainwater-reserve. Annual runoff is recorded at 188.1 billion cu m, equaling the combined runoff of the Yellow, Huaihe, Haihe, Songhua and Minjiang rivers. Underground runoff is registered at 45.3 billion cu m, which means Guangxi’s per capita water resource is 3, 795 cu m.

Rich water resource means huge hydropower potential. The theoretical value is 21.33 million kw, and the practical capacity 17.51 million kw, with an annual output of 81.1 billion kwh, ranking the eighth in China. Guangxi is one of the three national priority hydropower bases.
Hydropower resources are concentrated on the Yujiang, Liujiang, and Hongshui rivers, the latter accounting for 68% of Guangxi’s total.
