1 min readGardening is one of the important types of architectural art.Its essence is to construct beautiful surroundings by designing all the elements-mountain,water,building,road,indoor decoration,etc.,in a harmonious and organic way.Therefore,compared to other types of architecture,gardening needs more spiritual and artistic character.In China,gardening beganin the Qin Dynasty,and was fully developed in the later dynasties.However,it was in the Qing Dynasty that gardening obtained great achievements.
Almost all of the extant gardens were bequeathed in this dynasty.In the developmental course of Chinese gardening,there are two categories: imperial gardens in Beijing and the private gardens in the South.
The Development of Chinese Garden
The ancient Chinese garden originated in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties,when monarchs began to build parks for their own leisure and pleas-ure.During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period,itwas a fashion to build gardens.
Until the Han dynasty private gardens appeared.After the Jin,Northern and Southern dynasties,private gardens came into vogue as the rich and powerful sought to express their sentiment in landscaping.During the Tang and Song dynasties,a poetic touch wasadded to the layout and scenes of a garden,and became a general feature.In the Qing Dynasty,garden architecture reached its peak.
