A NEW CITY BUILT AT THE STARTING POINT OF THE SILK ROAD
3 min readHowever, due to an explosive population growth, and overcrowding and encroachment into nature, the green city of Chang’ an, where man The once contaminated river.Once lived harmoniously with nature, gradually lost its impressive color.
Xi’ an lost its position as capital city after the Tang Dynasty, its dynamic image disappeared from the memory of the people. Thinking of Xi’ an, the expressions “raditional, old, plain and a city on the loess”, enter into my mind.
The Chanhe River and the Bahe River, once were fierce torrents racing forward with mighty strength and vigor, now were reduced to two streams, flowing around Xi’ an city. It is not possible for us to see the beautiful scenery of these rivers anymore, and the poetic scenes like “over the Bahe River, willow catkin dancing in the wind like snowflakes”and “wild geese shooting out of the reeds”only exist in the books and with the thought and memory of the people.
With the development of the city and the deterioration of the ecological environment, areas along the Chanhe River and Bahe River descended to the dark corners of the city and became an ecological disaster areas. The courses of the water become narrow, and flowing sewage, garbage hills and numerous sandpits came up along the two rivers. The Chanhe River and the Bahe River used to have the most picturesque scenery in ancient China, but now the picture of dancing willow twigs and rippling water is destroyed.
Ten years ago, pioneers of Chan-Ba Ecological District stood at the junction of Chanhe River and Bahe River, seeing the garbage hills, sewageand weeds stretching tens of miles. Not only did they feel disapointment and sorrow, but also realized the significance its impact, and the and the great responsibility.
This area is bleak! Compared to other development zones, its inherent shortages, enormous investment and the sheer scale of the project made its renewal a huge hurdle for the leaders of the Management Committee ofChan-Ba Ecological District to overcome. The working members also had concern in their mind, about how the area of Chan-Ba be like this when it is a development zone of Xi’ an.
The Chanhe River and the Bahe River was heavily damaged, it is the dream and goal of the new generation of Chan-Ba, although it was a challenging task, to transform the area of Chan-Ba from “an ecological disaster area”to “a leading ecological area”and transfoem the image of the city of Xi’ an.
Throughout ten years of painstaking efforts and bold trials, Chan-Ba Ecological District has made impressive achievements in the 129-square kilometer area. In an attempt to reach the goal of “making an international management team and building a modern ecological city”, it pursuit is toachieve harmony between man and nature and to practic the theory of the “new city”as a pioneer. Chan-Ba Ecological District is leading the trend of building ecological cities and districts in China, writing a beautiful sonata of environment protection.
