According to the picking season: three-season tea or batch tea
1 min readGenerally, Pu-erh tea is produced in the same seasons as other kinds of tea. Thus, Pu-erh tea is also classified into spring tea, summer tea and autumn tea according to the season when leaves are picked.
In Yunnan, tea farmers classify the periods for picking tea into batches. The first and second batches of tea are spring tea, the third and fourth batches are summer tea and the fifth and the later batch are autumn tea (also called cereal flower tea), among which spring tea and cereal flower tea tastes best.
The above classification only applies to arbor tea. Modern technology has been applied to increase production of tea. This has impacted the traditional tea-leaf picking timing.
