Ancient City of loulan is in the southeast of Bayinguoleng mongol Autonomous Prefecture, in the Territory of Charkhlik County and to the west of Lop nor. the whole ruins scattered in Yadan landform ancient City of Loulan have complicated and strange terrain there are four dried up riverbedsthere are many dried up ditches and ponds on both sides the ruins are located between the branches of the fourth big riverbed and two small rivers
In history loulan was one of the thirty six kingdoms in the Western Regions in the Western Han Dynasty. Loulan city was the prophase center ofpolitics, economy and culture of loulan Kingdom. Loulan was to the west of Dunhuang to the southeast of yangi and yuli and to the northeast of Charkhlik and Qiemo; the ancient silk road was divided into the southern path and northern path at loulan the hub of the Western han ‘s communicationwith the Western Regions, taking an extremely important position in the collision and communication of the 4 ancient civilizations. As early as 77 BCLoulan had become an oasis with well-developed agriculture. Up until the tang Dynasty, Loulan almost became the synonym of remoteness. Why the once significant place in the Western Regions stepped out of the historical stage, is still a riddle which has not been really solved
