Chengde Eight Outer Temples
1 min readThe Eight Outer Temples were built between 1713 and 1780;many of them are in Tibetan style.In fact,”Eight Outer Temples”is a collective name for 12 temples.
The Eight Outer Temples was listed as a UNESCO World Culture Heritage Site in 1994.
At present,6 temples are open to the public;they are Putuo Zongcheng Temple,Puning Temple,Xumi Fushou Temple,Pule Temple,Anyuan Temple,and Puyou Temple.
Every temple shows its own features.The Outer Eight Temples stand for kinds of ethnic groups from all around China,showing their loyalty towards authority center.
The Eight Temples are good examples of the combination of the Han building style and Tibetan building art.The largest temple,Putuo Zongcheng Temple was a replica of the the Potala Palace in Tibet hence is also called”the Little Potala”.It was built for celebrating Emperor Qianlong’s 60th birthday and his mother’s 80th birthday.

The Eight Outer Temples are located in the north and east of Chengde Summer Resort.
