Chengshan Ravine

Located in Heping of Changxing, Chengshan Ravine is honoured with many titles, such as State Tourist Site, National Demonstration Area ofAgricultural Tourism, Forest sightseeing Area in Zhejiang Province and Rural Tourism Spot with Three-star grade. The tourist site is characterized by agricultural tourism. The touring area is divided into five functional areas including service centre, reception centre, the water area for recreational activities, orchards for fruit-picking, and the area of religious culture. All the stops are linked by four main roads and some branches. The whole site occupies an area of 1,800 mu, and has excellent sceneries and natural conditions.

Entering the scenic site, tourists come to see Taohua Lake(peach flower lake) first. The lake developed from a reservoir with an area of 200 mu. Because of the reservoir that had a water levelled bridge on it before, it was originally named “Pingqiao Reservoir”. With the changes of times, the old bridge disappeared. In 2006,a bridge similar to the old one was built up to joint the islet in the lake to the lakeshore. Later, with the steady increase in tourism, some public facilities are set for fishing, drinking, barbecue and even organizing the campfire party by the sides of the lake. When the harvest season comes, the orchards are full of sweet fragrance. Ripe honey peaches, pears, red bayberries, loquats, grapes and others hang heavily on trees. They feast one’s eyes. Tourists are allowed to pick and taste freely on the spot if the charges are included in admission tickets.

Chengshan Ravine is rich in tourist resources. Many historical relics and cultural remains are related to Buddhism, Taoism and the events happened in different dynasties. The Nine-dragon Pagoda is built at the highest where tourists can have the bird’s-eye view of the whole scenic site.

It is also the best place for visitors to take Photos. Nine-dragon pagoda is named after Nine-dragon Pool. The name of Nine-dragon Pool comes from two different sayings. One originates from a mystic story that nine dragonsonce flew down from the heavens to drink at the pool. The other lies in the land form that the geological lines of the mountain ranges near Chengshan Ravine are similar to nine dragons. Additionally, the spring water gushing from the giant rocks on the right slope of the pool forms a waterfall, so that the waterfall is naturally named after nine-dragon.

As a national demonstration of agricultural tourism, an exhibition is specially opened to display the ancient farm implements and tools. March is a peach flower season,a peach flower festival is held regularly in the scenic site when peach flowers in full blossom, which attracts more and more tourists from neighbouring cities. Recently, the leisure tour in Chengshan Ravine has been greatly recommended in tourist market. This scenic site developed into a hot tourist site that integrates religions, cultures, leisure, recreations, fruit-picking and other activities together.
