China’ s First International Regional Economic Cooperation Demonstration Area
1 min readThe Beibu Gulf Economic Zone in Guangxi is distinct from the Shenzhen, Xiamen and Shantou special economic zones, the Shanghai Pudong New Area, the Tianjin Binhai New Area, the Chengdu-Chongqing Urban-Rural Comprehensive Reform Pilot Area, the Wuhan Megalopolis or the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Metro-city Coordinated Reform Pilot Area. It is China’s first demonstration area for international regional economic cooperation, an area that not only seeks its own development but also shoulders responsibility for promoting the progress of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area and the historic mission of improving friendship and cooperation between China and ASEAN.
According to theDevelopment Plan for Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, by 2020, the Zone will be base built into an open cooperation base in logistics, business, manufacturing, and an information exchange center between China and ASEAN countries. It will become an internationally-renowned regional economic cooperation area with a high degree of opening-up, strong regional influence, economic prosperity, social harmony and an ecologically-bal environment. It will function as a strategic high ground supporting the development of China’s western region and a new spur to economic development in the coastal areas. It also aims to be the first place in the western region to become a moderately well-off society.
