In China, the most common drama form is Chinese opera combining music, dance and performance. It is also the most unique and most representative art form of theChinese drama.
Originated from the 12th century, the Chinese opera remains basically intact in its 800-year history and has been highly popular with all the Chinese during all periods. In the early 2oth century, the stage play, or huaju, was introduced to Chinaand during a period of over a hundred years, it integrated with other parts of Chinese culture, took its root in this country and became one of the most influential drama forms.
