By 2012, “Tianshan Reading Festival”had been successfully held seven times. Now the Festival has become an important culture brand in Xinjiang, and one of the major cultural events that people of all ethnic groups look forward too. A series of reading activities have guided the masses of all ethnic groups to enhance their own qualities, therefore those activities have become the channel for enriching the spiritual life of the masses of all ethnic roups. In addition, the Reading Festival has promoted inter-ethnic communication in culture and mutual recognition, and consolidated the friendship bridge between masses of all nationalities through the ways of sending books, reading lectures, essay competition,and so on.

In 2012, Xinjiang built 950 farm reading houses, colorful cultural activities such as reading lectures, cultural learning, painting and photography exhibition were held all year round, which effectively alleviated the difficulties of reading books and newspapers that the farmers and herdsmen faced for a long time, and it has played a positive role in promoting the cultural construction of the new countryside, nurturing new farmers, and promoting the construction of civilized local custom.

In 2012, Xinjiang deeply carried out the free admission of all levels of museums, libraries,and cultural centers (stations). Only in Urumqi, for example, all levels of museums, libraries,cultural centers, and art galleries had serviced more than 0.7 million people of all nationalities, among which, Urumqi library was the first to achieve “zero closed” in 365 days a year in all public libraries in Xinjiang. In 2012, the exhibitions were held with high quantity and quality, the “Palace museum culture exhibition of Xinjiang in Qing Dynasty”, “Art exhibition of six countries”, “The master’s mark-Sackler museum western prints”, and so on made Xinjiang people enjoy the high-quality cultural nourishment at home.

Urumqi library opens 24 hours

Xinjiang people love reading, and also love colorful cultural activities.

In 2012, the first Network Spring Festival gala was held, gathering the most famous grassroots celebrity and mass talents in the year 2011 to fully show the characteristics of local culture and the Internet. When seeing the video clip on the website, netizens praised it as”close to the ground”. In 2012 “China’s top ten most anticipated network Spring Festival galas”made by Yangtze River Network, the first Xinjiang Network Spring Festival gala was successfully selected, ranking the fifth.

In June 2008, the first International folk dance festival was held in Xinjiang, with the theme of “Harmonious China, and charming Xinjiang”, the dance groups from 9 countries and regions participated in the performand, such as Russia, Turkey India, Greece,and Mexico. The cultural event helped expand the foreign culture and art communication channels in the western frontier and ethnic minority autonomous foreign, expand the cultural exchange and publicity of Xinjiang, and promote the prosperity and development of cultural undertakings in Xinjiang.
