Cosmos Outlook Retlecfed In Miao Embroidery
1 min readAppointing the curls on the embroidery many people said to me, that is the bracken flower, mill wheel, tiger or cat, or spray in the Miao country I always doubt these conclusions, and wonder whether the symbols of brackens or mill wheels and cat paws could survive for so many thousands of years on the Miao embroidery Elders I met in Miao communities told me, long long ago, there was no sky and no land and that is what it was like I came to understand that this is their interpretation of the beginning of the universe.
Miao epic Kaitian Pidi says that in the beginning of time, land is like an unformable mud and swaying and rocking. According to mainstream Han culture the universe began from a fuzzy air and fog “out of chaos appears the earth” So Hans and Miaos share similar views on the origin of the universe. Ethnic Miaos without written language use their embroidery to express their view of the origin of the universe.
And the symbols with rich cultural implications survive so many thousand years on the embroidery and pass down to our times and to eternity.
