She comes from the spring on the snow mountain in the Tibetan Plateau and flows eastward along the mountains, valleys, hills and plains; sometimes she is billowing and sometimes rippling; she flows through the Loess Plateau and carries large amount of sand which silts up the river courses in the lower reaches; she surges forward under the restrictions of levees and reservoirs, however she also often overruns freely out of the river course; she comes all the way to enter the sea, however her river mouth changes frequently. She is the Yellow River, the river that attracts both love and hate. The Yellow River has long been praised and cursed repeatedly by the people living in the Yellow River Basin, praise because of her abundant resources, plenty of water and convenient watercourses, and curse because of her damaging floods, changeable river courses and depositing silts.
