2 min readA recurrent problem, however, is that some regions in China have developed more quickly than others because of their locations. For example, the coastline of China with its ports and fertile soil has developed more rapidly than western China with its deserts and mountains.
Western China is more isolated and thus lags behind the coastal regions.
China’s arable land is primarily in the eastern region, the same area where a majority of China’s vast population is concentrated. In addition to extensive areas of western China which are relatively uninhabited, substantial portions of southern China are unfavorable for agriculture because of mountainous topography. There are significant variations from province to province in terms of cultivated land, multiplecropping, and overall production of various crops.
Geographical Influences on the Chinese Culture So far, we have gotten a general knowledge of the land. The varied landforms and diverse climates inevitably have a great effect on the Chinese culture in the following ways.Different life styles.The east part of China is flat and moist，with abundant arable farmland while the northwest and the areas north to the Great Wall are dry all the year round and mainly fit in with animal husbandry.The different temperatures and moistures lead to the factthat north of the line of Qinling Mountains-Huaihe River wheat and corn are the staple grains while south of it rice takes its place.The regional diversity is the natural base for the co-existing multi-cultures in China.
A united nation.As is known that China is a mountainous country，with towering mountains in the west and southwest borders，deserts and Gobi（戈壁）in the far north，boundless waters around its east and southeast，it had been a secluded place for a long time when transportation was quite slow.This fact made China a less open country，making China a united nation most of the time with long and continuous development as well as a strong and pure culture，leading to a strong sense of self-obturation and self-satisfaction.
Self-sufficient people.Big as it is，most of the Chinese people have crowded in the eastern part of the country，making farming their mainstay.In order to feed more mouths，people carried out intensive farming in their limited fertile fields.Therefore，the Chinese culture shineswith a strong agricultural color，bringing out a people who love nature，their home and world peace.
