Dragon Boat Festival (or Duanwu Festival)
1 min readThe Dragon Boat Festival falls on the 5th day of the 5th month in the lunar calendar, having a history of more than 2,000 years It was initially for protection from evil andal ver disease. There are several versions of its origin and the most famous one is that it commemorates the death of Qu Yuan (340-278 BC), an upright and honest poet and statesman who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.
Two of the most widespread activities for celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival are eating (and preparing) “Zong Zi,” which is made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves, and racing dragon boats.
