Dragon King Mountain Tourist Site
3 min readDragon King Mountain is situated in the Dragon King Mountain Natural Reserves of Anji County. The scientific investigation proves that the source of the Huangpu River in Shanghai starts from there. The main peak of the mountain is about 1,587.4 meters high. The weather of the mountain is changeable and it has many foggy days in a year. In the middle of the mountain there is a grand gorge between the steep cliffs which spans more than 10 kilometers. The mountain has also a lot of waterfalls, and magnificent sight of clouds. There are vast tracts of brilliant azaleas. It is also a place for people to have a view of the sunrise. On the higher level, hundreds of gullies converge on the natural site to form a piece of wetland, covering an area of 1,000 mu. Such an unusual subtropical natural scene is a geological wonder.
Dragon is an animal in the fairy tale, standing for the atrocity and evil in the West. However, on the contrary, in China dragon is a deified animal worshipped by the Chinese people from the ancient time. It stands for propitious sign, supreme authority, preciousness and rareness. In feudal society, dragon stands for the Emperor. Later on, dragon becomes the symbol of the whole nationality. Nowadays, dragon still has a high position in China. Chinese people think they are the descendants of dragon, even if no one exactly knows what it is. Dragon as a part of Chinese culture is also the spiritual tie that links the Chinese people all over the world together. In other words, dragon carries luck, happiness, power and mystery in the hearts of Chinese people, and dragon king is superpowerful. Thus, the title of dragon is often added and crowned to some things or places.
Dragon King Mountain has many picturesque peaks and different shaped rocks that produce many beautiful sights with funny names, such as Immortal Hole, Dragon Head Waterfall, Flying Waterfall of Cloudy Dragon, Water Dripping through Rock, Celestial Being Cutting Board, Waterwheel Rocks, and so on. Most of them have their interesting folk legends.
Dragon King Mountain that has a well-preserved natural ecosystem and abundant vegetation provides a good habitat for a wide variety of fauna.
There are about more than 100 different types of animals and plants in themountain area. Most of them are valuable plants and rare animals classified as the 2nd or the 3rd grades under the state protection in China. Sometimes, some animals like wapiti, sika, giant salamander and others would come out.
Walking through the dense woods, the haunting songs of the eagles can be heard from time to time. When the azalea and other wild flowers are in blossom, Dragon King Mountain gives tourists an additional rustic charm.
Because of the changeable weather on the mountain, the whole mountain would be quickly enveloped by foggy weather in thick mist, and only the faint outline of the mountain could be seen. Yet, it turns clear before long, tourists can look far into the distance again to appreciate the charming scenery throughout.This is one of main tourist sites in Anji.
