Dragon Worship in Miao Embroidery

Another frequent image in Miao embroidery is the dragon, which the Miao people surely are fond of Miao dragons are from one of the twelve eggs laidby Butterfly Mama.

Dragon is one of the lives on earth and symbol of benevolence, exuberance and strength. There are many variety of the form of Miao dragons, coiling dragon, flying dragon, homed dragon and etc. that differ significantly from the dragon we Han people see often.

 In emperor times, the dragon was the symbol of royal power and reserved for the emperor only but the Miao dragon is for the general people and for everybody Because Miaos have the philosophy that “everything has a life and life is equal” images of the dragon in Miao embroidery by the Miao women bless themselves, their family and tribe.
