Dzorobodzo festival
2 min readDzorobodzo festival which is celebrated from the 7th to the 9th of march every year, is one of the most time-honored festivals of Kirgiz people. The festival is held main ly to commemorate a hero named dzorobodzo It is said that long ago, there was a Kirgiz hero named dzorobodzo who could not stand the invasion of the other clan and brought 40 warriors with him and came into fight with the then dominator.
In a fight, the hero found himself alone was tightly encircled by the enemies but he fought fiercely and managed to go through the close siege and yet his horse was badly hurt. the horse carried his master away from danger but finally died because of continuous bleeding. Dzorobodzo was so grieved that, to honor his beloved battle steed, he took off a pugil of hair on its tail to make a music instrument named “kiyak sitting beside the horse and playing the music which revealed his grief over and yearning for the steed.
The moving and tragic music came to his battle companions with the wind and people came all around to the hero, cheering on him who had got off with a whole skin, and then conducted a grand celebration; after that, the celebration was held every year. As time goes by, such a celebration has become a festival on which Kirgiz people pray happiness and health for each other. During the festival, joyful people get together, holding a variety of sporting activities and listening to the elders talking about the heroic deeds of dzorobodzo.
