2 min readThe easter is the most ceremonious traditional festival of the russian people, which is called Pascal Festival”in Russian, set up for commemorating the resurrection of jesus. the easter has not a fixed date, which is the first Sunday after the first full phase of the moon after the spring equinox, usually either earlier than April 4 nor later than May 10. Before the Easter, people arry out the Lent according to the religious tradition, and the fasting period is 49 days. People only eat one full meal a day with the rest two meals only eating half full the food is very simple not allowed to be added with any fat food.
During the fasting period, people are not allowed to dance or sing so as to mourn the death of the crucified Jesus Nowadays except for the old and the religious believers, many Russians in China do not follow the religious discipline any longer. On the festival day, each family prepares abundant food People dressed in the festival clothes congratulate each other and commemorate the resurrection of Jesus. People joyfully say Jesus is resuscitated”once see each other, and the other joyfully answers “Jesus is really resuscitated”. Each family prepares a lot of colorful chicken eggs. Each glory of life. During the festival, people hold family parties or take part in o o guest coming to congratulate the festival will obtain one colorful chicken egg, one piece of Pechine(cake) and one piece of Gulich(bread) symbolizing the communal dances to enjoy singing and dancing for the celebration. In 1983, the People’s Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region stipulated that people of the russian ethnic group in the whole Xinjiang region would have a day off on the Easter Christmas.
The Christmas is also the festival of the Russian ethnic group, for celebrating the birthday of jesus. the russian used the russian calendar which is different from the current Gregorian calendar before the october Revolution. People believing in the Orthodox, the Catholic and the Christianit all around the world celebrate the christmas on december 25, but the Christmas of the russian ethnic groupis celebrated on January 7 the next year.
When the festival is coming each family decorates christmas trees with cedars or pines and prepares abundant festival food to entertain the guests. When people gather together in the evening, a dressed up santa Claus gives gifts to everyone. People also hold choir parties to celebrate the birthday of Jesus.
