2 min readFamille Rose Porcelain Plate with Pattern of Lady and Playing Children was fired in Yongzheng Period of the Qing Dynasty. It is one of the representative works of Jingdezhen Famille Rose Technology. It is round and surrounded by decorative laces. The left upper part, right upper part and lower part are painted with a flfl owering tree. The center of this plate sees a colorful and exquisite decorative painting which depicts such a scene that a boudoir lady plays with two children in a house fifi lled with precious antique wares. The plate shapes beautifully, which is glazed smooth. With refifi ned drawing, it boasts top quality and high artistic value.
In the painting, a lady has almond-shaped eyes and small mouth, who wears a long nail wrap on fifi ngers. She sits on the coach, and holds a small thing in left hand to appreciate it. In front of the lady, a child holds lotus flowerpot with difficulty, and carefully looks at small thing in the lady’s hand. Beside him, another child frowns and seems to think. This painting integrates motion and quietness so as to show the lively and naive scene when the lady and children play together.
Eggshell Porcelain
From the late Yongzheng Period to the early Qianlong Period in the Qing Dynasty, Jingdezhen ceramic production reached a peak. During this period, Jingdezhen porcelain was made very thin, which sometimes reached translucent state like eggshell. Because of refifi ned painting and high quality, many of Jingdezhen porcelains were exported, and the Europeans called them “eggshell porcelains”.
Famille rose
Famille rose porcelain was a new variety fifi red in Jingdezhen in the late Kangxi Period of the Qing Dynasty. It uses “glass white” and a variety of colors for painting on porcelain body. The fired products feature transparent color, shade of lines and beautiful and soft tone. Famille rose emerged as the main varieties of Jingdezhen porcelain production in Yongzheng Period and Qianlong Period. At that time, official kiln and private kilns in Jingdezhen launched mass production of famille rose works. During Yongzheng Period, such artworks with wonderful crafts and bright colors are traditionally considered as the top grade in famille rose porcelain. During Qianlong Period, famille rose fifi ring created many new styles and diverse novel modeling, which also presented unique performance in the decoration process.
Arts and crafts of the Qing Dynasty
Arts and crafts of the Qing Dynasty mainly included pottery craft, dyeing craft, metal craft, lacquerware craft, furniture craft and folk craft, etc. Its development can be roughly divided into two stages. Before the mid Qing Dynasty, it carried forward traditions of the Ming Dynasty, and developed in production technology and artistic creation. After the mid Qing Dynasty, the creation shifted for cumbersome decoration and ordinary savor, but the production technology still made remarkable achievement.
