Famous Chinese herbalist Zhang Zhongjing
1 min readZhang Zhongjing（150-219）lived in the Eastern Han Dynasty when a plague was widespread.Zhang Zhongjing achieved a high municipal level in his official career，but never gave up his medical practice.He would deal with his official duties while at the same time seeing patients.When objections were raised，he resigned from his post as governor of Changsha to devote himself to medicine.After many years of hard learning and clinical practice，he won high prestige and became one of the most outstanding medical scientists in the history of Chinese medicine.
He established the principle of treatment according to syndrome differentiation in Treatise on Cold Pathogenic and Miscellaneous Diseases，which is the basic rule of clinical medicine of China and the soul of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
There is a saying in the book which reads:“In terms of the high level，medicine is for curing the nobility of their diseases；in terms of the lower level，it is used to save the poor from disaster；in terms of the middle level，it is used to keep our good health.” That shows the kind-heartedness of Zhang Zhongjing as a great doctor，so later generations have given him the honorific title-Saint in Medicine.
