1 min readFlat Silk stitch, is not some special skill of embroidering It gets its name because of the material on which to embroider being special. The skills used for this is usually Plain Stitch Flat Silk Stitch is actually silkworms natural silking.
The techniques for this is to put silkworms on a flat broad wood and let the silkworms spin on the wood naturally until evenly covering the whole surface .When the silk layer is enough thick, the silk surface is detached from the wood and squeezed to even thickness.
The silk surface after dyeing is used as the cloth to embroidery on. Nowadays, there are only a few places still keeping this ancient techniques, e.g.in Sandu and Rongjiang counties. But even there, there is only one season suited for such embroidery. The embroidery work made with such a technique seems to be classical and mysterious.
