Fojia kung fu
1 min readLiving in Lishan Village in Qianwu Town, Zhuhai, Huang Buyun is a brilliant representative of “Fojia Kung Fu”, now under city-level, cultural relics protection. The 70-year-old martial arts master is an outstanding member of the fifth generation of his “kung fu”family.
Falling into the “Nanquan”(also known as “Southern Fist”) category, “Fojia Kung Fu”is believed to have been brought far afield to present-day Doumen District in Zhuhai by warrior monks of the Shaolin Temple at some point in the war-torn, late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Learning widely from other kung fu genres, it features a positioning technique called”monkey and horse”, stressing a balance between fierce punching speed and power, and “softness” and flexibility. The swift transition between different stances and varying speeds creates a visual feast for the viewer and causes a shiver that runs down one’s spine.
