Four Great Painters of the Yuan Dynasty

Huang Gongwang(1269-1354)was born in Changshu,Jiangsu Province.
He was a versatile painter and accomplished in other art forms,such as calligraphy and music.
When old,he engaged himself in the natural world and thus formed the unique pure and natural artistic style.His masterpiece is Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountain.
Ni Zan(1301-1374)was born into a wealthy family in Wuxi,Jiangsu Province.He abandoned his home and lived his life on lakes and rivers for over two decades.
Most of his paintings are about the scene of the Tai Lake,and his representative works are Looking into the Mountain on River Bank,Fishing Village in Autumn,and others.
Wu Zhen(1280-1354)was born in Jiaxing,Zhejiang Province.He possessed profound knowledge but was arrogant,living a secluded life in the countryside.His representative works are Eight Scenes of Jiahe,Water-bound Vilage,and others.
Wang Meng(1381-1385),a native of Huzhou,lived from the late Yuan Dynasty to the early Ming Dynasty.He was appointed an officer in the early Ming Dynasty and later died in prison because of his involvement in a crime.His representative works are Seclusion in Qingbian and Summer Residence in the Mountain.
