Four seasons in Xinjiang
3 min readThe principal elements to affect climate are geographic conditions(such as geographic locations, topography and underlying surface conditions), sun radiation and general atmospheric circulation; and these three elements, in the process of mutual constraints and interactions, form the unique seasons of Xinjiang .
Xin jiang is located in the hinder-land of Eurasia, far from the sea, so the water conveying distance is long; and the underlying surface is mainly of Gobi, which make the climate of Xin jiang exhibit unique characteristics, presenting as typical temperate continental arid climate; and also the climate changes significantly affected by the latitude and topography such as basin, mountain and gobi Divided by Tianshan Mountains, the north of Tianshan Mountains(Northern Xinjiang Area) and the south (Southern Xinjiang Area) have differences in climate. Because Tianshan Mountains can block cold air from invading to the south and becomes a climatic boundary, Northern Xin jiang area is temperate zone and Southern Xinjiang area is warm temperate zone.
Sun radiation is the major source of energy for calescence of the atmosphere, the land and the sea, as well as the basic power for the generation of all physical processes and physical phenomena in the atmosphere. Xin jiang has a vast territory, 1, 500km from southto north, spanning 14 latitudes and far from the ocean with dry air and small quantity of cloud layer. Sun radiation generates abundant heat resources in Xinjiang; the climates between the South and the north and between winter and summer, are significantly different.
The general atmospheric circulation facilitates heat exchange and water exchange between high altitude and low altitude and between the land and the sea. Xin jiang is located in the middle altitude which is influenced by not only the westerly weather systemand the polar region Arctic system, but also the subtropics weather system. The changes intemperature of the winter of Xin jiang and the amount precipitation are all related to the general atmospheric circulation. The barrier action of the Tianshan Mountain Range to the cold air from the north, results in clear difference in temperature between the Southern and Northern Xin jiang.
The climatic conditions of Xin jiang are unique. Generally speaking, there are substantial sunny days, sunlight of long time, large circadian temperature disparity and more sand storm; with small air humidity, the summer in Xinjiang is not sultry; and in winter, with small wind. the weather is dry and cold but the sensible temperature is great but it is warm in winter and cool in summer, very suitable for tourism. The four seasons of Xin jiang have their unique sceneries, and not to mention the time bet ween july and September, it is the golden season to come to Xinjiang for tourism and summer vacationing. “May snow of Tianshan Mountains, with no flowers but coldness”;”the north wind sweeps the ground and snaps breaks the grass, and then while snow falls from the frontier sky even though it is August”; “even in September people still sweats and hot wind blows the sand and dust”; “it should be hotter in Turpan in July, and nobody shows up on the road of Chiting”; such lines depict the bitter cold and summer heat as well as significant regional disparity. However, in spring of Xin jiang, people can enjoy the exuberant green; in summer, people can’t resist the attraction of melons and fruits; inautumn, people can’t forget the golden color of the desert Euphrates poplar; in winter, people cannot help loving those views of vast frozen land and thick snow falling and it is a place exhibiting the gift of nature and tells the lofty sentiments of nature at any time.
