Of the 670 species of 58 fruit tree families in China, 110 species of 43 families are found in Guangxi. Among Guangxi’s 700 kinds of fruits, 80% are tropical or subtropical, making it one of the major production bases. Guangxiranks top in output of the Shatian pomelo, second for bananas and pineapples, and third for oranges, lychees, longan fruit and mangoes.

Local Products

Guangxi is also known for the large variety and high quality of local products. Among its 1, 120 kinds of local products, Guangxi leads in production of rosin, tannin extract, aniseed, fennel oil, and cassia. Famous products are shitake mushrooms, Jew’s ear fungus, tree fungus, gingko fruit, and the medicinal herb fructus momordicae. Half of China’s rosin and turpentine, and 50-90% of tannin extract, aniseed, fennel oil, and cassia are produced in Guangxi. Output of tienchi ginseng, a valuable Chinese herbal medicine, is the second highest in China.
