A full year of life means another celebration after the baby’s birth, which is also the first birthday of the baby.
The Xibe people attach great importance tothe first birthday and on that day they will let the baby draw lots to predicthis/her future. At the time,a number of toys(including tools for labor work, the model of a bow, an arrow, etc.),a writing brush,a piece of paper and so on wil be put on the heatable brick bed for the baby to grab.
If the baby takes a bow or an arrow, he is supposed to be a general in the future; if a writing brush or a piece of paper is taken, he is supposed to be a writer,a scholar, etc. in the future. Whatever the result is, the parents will feel happy about it and celebrate the future of the baby. Then the family will warmly treat their guests.
