China is located in Eastern Asia, to the west of the Pacific Ocean The land of China is one of great geographical diversity, high in the west and low in the east, its mountains,plateaux and hills accounting for about 67% and the basin and plain for about 33%.Bordered by mountains, steppes and deserts, the immense central plains and plateaux are watered by great rivers, such as the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers, supporting dense population, about 1, 37 billion.

Its vast territory, with a total area of about 9.6 million square kilometers, over 5,000 km in distance from east to west, coastline of over18,000km, makes it second only to Russia and Canada, ranking No. 3 in the world (the fourth being the United States), with an area almost equivalent to the whole of Europe.
