Gifts Culture
2 min readChina possesses an ancient culture steeped in Confucianism-based largely on respect, relationships, and rituals-the purpose of which is maintaining harmony within one’s family, network of friends, colleagues, and society at large.Gifts play a key role in this as they allow the Chinese people to not only demonstrate their respect to elders and superiors but also allow them to show their commitment and enthusiasm toward maintaining close relationships with family and friends.
Chinese people have their own culture when it comes to giving gifts to friends or relatives. It is important to know that giving someone gifts should not be a one-way business.Courtesy requires reciprocity.
The person who receives the gift should find a chance in the future to return the same favor by returning a gift of similar value the next time you meet. You can do so simply by either paying a visit with a similar value gift or by inviting the friend out.
Not every occasion demands something special. So generally a simple gift would be good enough. There are many different types of gifts that can be given to relatives, friends and business partners. First of all,a gift from your hometown or region will be a good choice.Second, wine, cigarettes, new clothes are also acceptable. Other recommended gifts include fruits, food, and health supplements.
