2 min readNestled by Yanshan Mountain to the north and Bohai Sea to the south, Tangshan is located in the only way from central China to northeast China.A section of the Great Wall is located in Tangshan, onthe south slope of Yanshan Mountain, and extends from east to northwest along the ridge as the northern barrier protecting the North China Plain. This area saw frequent cultural and economic exchanges between central China and northern ethnic groups in ancient times and has a long history and rich ancient relics.
The Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty in Tangshan is mainly distributed in Qian’ an County, Qianxi County and Dunhua. It is 208.4 km long in total and has been recognized as a provincial cultural protection unit by Hebei Provincial People’s Government. The section in Tangshan includes 29 strategic passes,603 watchtowers and 82 beacon towers, assembling the essence of the Great Wall. Underwater Great Wall, marble Great Wall,72-Arch Tower, Jail Tower, water gate, Great Wall brick kiln, horse barn and troop camp etc. are all unique scenery along the Great Wall.
Qingshan Pass in Qianxi County is a Grade AAAA tourist spot where tourists can enjoy the ancient culture and architecture and natural landscape and experience local custom. This place was originally the border area garrison of the Ming Dynasty and the ancient castle was built at the foot of the mountains, consisting of yamun, barracks, posthouse, temple, teahouse, bars and residential courtyards, untouched by artificial renovation. The Water Gate is the first gate of the Great Wall.
The underwater Great Wall in Panjiakou is located in north Qianxi County. In 1975, Panjiakou Reservoir was built in the Luanhe River-Tianjin Water Diversion Project and a part of the magnificent Great Wall was immersed in the water, like a black dragon swimming in the glittering water.
The marble Great Wall is located in Baiyangyu, Qian’ an County, where there is a complete ancient defense system with a water gate, fortress, ramparts, watchtowers, beacon towers, platforms anda horse barn. The 1.5 km long brownish red marble Great Wall has 28 extraordinary sights such as the Turtle Damming the Water and Nine Dragons Playing a Pearl. The Jiufengshan Section of the Great Wall in Zunhua is the narrowest part, only 7Ocm wide at its narrowest point. Jiufeng Mountain is a Grade AA tourist spot famous for the beautiful mountain, ancient temple, unique trees and stones, steep cliff and narrow Great Wall.
Located in Qianxi County, Emperor Shunzhi and Emperor Qianlong visited Jingzhong Mountain siximes. The mountain is a religious resort of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism and a Grade AAAA tourist spot. The mountain features steep rocks, towering ancient pine trees,a quiet and deep valleyand 1872 zigzag steps to the peak. Emperor Kangxi wrote steles such as “Famous Mountain”,”World Famous Mountain”and”Souled Mountain with Beautiful Views”on Jingzhong Mountain.
