Hainan Tropical Wildlife and Botanical Garden

The Garden is the first one in China whose topic is the expo of the rare animals and plants，reproduction protection，going on holidays and sightseeing.And it is the only one in China that shows panoramic island rain forest wild ecosystems，and also the natural museum of the concentrated essence of animals and plants in Hainan Island.Besides，it has also passed the ISO9001 quality and ISO14001 environmental management system certification，and now it becomes the national 4A-rated scenic spot.

Hainan Tropical Wildlife and Botanical Garden is a key tourism project，which is located by the beautiful Dongshan Lake，and it is only 27 km awayfrom Haikou City，which is convenient for tourism.The Garden’s landscape is purely natural，and luxuriant forests and lush plants create a good wild environment for animals.Artificial opening of the jungle trails and all kinds of strange flowers make us expose to birds，entering a thrilling and interesting animal world.

The Garden covers more than 2，000 mu，of which animal viewing area occupies 1，300 mu.There are 200 kinds of rare birds and animals，the number of which reaches more than 4，000.We can take a sightseeing bus to see the natural state of African lion，Manchurian tiger，black bear，and other beasts；We can also see the Elephas maximus，giraffe，crocodile，hippo，goanna，long python，emu and pony，and have fun with monkeys in man-made monkey mountains and wander in tropical birds’world，watching various tropical birds’ performance.

Look ahead, super mixed-race baby liger, which is a miracle in biosphere because the conception rate of lions and tigers when they mate is one out of 100,000, and the survival rate of the liger is about one out of 500,000. In this Garden, there was a stirring piece “Lion and Tiger’s love song”. The male lion Xiao’ erhei and female tiger Huanhuan gave birth to three healthy little ligers in 2005, and strangely in the early hours of March 23,2006 gave birth to quadruplet ligers, which created world records of 4 liger being born at one time and surviving healthily. We can also see African lion-king of the forest, Manchurian tiger-the animals under A-level national protection, black bear which only lives in the primeval forest, the spotted leopard-the king of running in biosphere, the fierce crocodile, etc.

In the pedestrian area, we can see Happy Elephant Island, Hainan Eld’s Deer Farm, Hippo Pool, the vocal music world-Birds’ Garden, Harmonious Dongshan Lake Park and other animals’ zones, and enjoy beautiful scenery of animals. Hainan Eld’s deers, just like pandas, are wild animals under A-level national protection, existing in small quantities only in southern and southwestern part of Hainan. Eld’s deer is a geographical subspecies of swamp deer, three other subspecies of which live across India, Thailand and Burma, and only Eld’s deer live on Hainan Island. In 1976, due to ferocious hunting and killing, only 26 Hainan Eld’s deer remained. Thanks to the Hainan Datian National Nature Reserve’s hard, meticulous care, the number of Hainan Eld’s deer has grown to more than 1,600.

All kinds of animals in the Garden are national rare species.

Well, plants found in the Park are also endless. Unique plants are dotted in Tropical Rainforest Corridors, Grand View Garden of Plants, Fruit and Vegetable Garden, Green Rubber Garden and other areas. For example, the “tree of lifeand tree of Hainan Province-coconut tree, mango-the king of fruits in the fruit and vegetable garden, and Hainan’s special fruit-durian, mysterious fruits and other fruits. In green rainforest corridors, you will have a different tropical feeling. The tropical rainforest is filled with mysteries, and here you can see some of the rarest plant species, such as dracaena, Huanghuali wood, Cycas revoluta, pitto sporum, Hainan five-needle pines, Hainan chaulmoogra. Among them, Huanghuali wood, whose terminology is D. hainanensis, is also known as Hainan Huanghuali wood. Huanghuali is the main timber hardwood furniture in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Because of its yellow color, close and soft texture, gentle aroma, craftsmen love it very much in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Hainan Huanghuali has always been known as China’s most expensive tree. The mahogany furniture made by Huanghuali wood is the elite. It is highly praised by collectors, and is beginning to be a member of fashionable classical furniture. In Hainan, Hainan Huanghuali wood’s prices had risen to 9,000 Yuan a kilo, and in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, its prices are higher. Besides, its medical value is also huge. Its medicinal part is called th rosewood Dalbergia odorifera Huanghuali wood, and it mainly refers to the heartwood of the tree trunks and roots. This medicine smells aromatic, slightly bitter, and can be used to treat rheumatism, lumbago, vomiting blood, high blood pressure, heart and stomach gas pain, etc. Huanghuali wood can be made into aromatics and it can also be used as a fixative in perfumes.
