It is said that Beijing is grand, Shanghai is of western style, but it is quite difficult to find a word to describe Urumqi. Shenwei, a poet still lives in Urumqi, is regarded as the most representative poet of Xinjiang although born in the Yangtze River delta, for the poetry world thinks that he has entered the cultural miscegenation of Xinjiang. So far as he was concerned, “Unlike Beijing, perhaps Urumqi is not a city of strong culture, but there is not a city like Urumqi with such a diversification in culture. I am deeply infatuated with the city, it is real, but at more time, it shows a kind of magic realism, like a dream.” It really cannot be more appropriate.

Urumqi, the city of miscegenation, mixing the blood of different nationalities, as well as the temperament of sunshine, ice and snow; it is a colorful, inclusive and infatuating city, just like a kaleidoscope.

Kashgar, a strategic town on the Silk Road

Kashgar, the ancient courier station on the Silk Road, is located in the hinterland of the Eurasian continent. As one of the traffic, economy, politics and culture centers in Southern Xinjiang, Kashgar was set as a city in October 1952. In May 2010, Kashgar established a special economic zone, counterpart supported by Shenzhen, the saying of “Just as there is Shenzhen in the south, there is Kashgar in the west”resounded through the country. The hardworking people in Kashgar tried their best to build their home, to make a charming city with increasing charm.

There is a distinctive dividing line of new and old in Kashgar, the new town is prosperous and modern, while the old is ancient and national.
