White Poplar Forest- Jeminay Port
Jeminay means white poplar forest in Kazak. In Jeminay Port, freight is not only transported to Kazakhstan, but it is also exported to Siberia of Russia. Siberia is very cold in the winter. Consequently, there is great demand for fresh vegetables. Jeminay County Government is aware of this business opportunity, so they helped the farmers build more than 500 greenhouses for efficient vegetable production. With an area of 50,000 mus (about 33.3km), they can provide Kazakhstan and Russia with off-season vegetables. Relying on vegetable cultivation in greenhouses only, a farmer’s household can realize income of 10,000 Yuan every year. Mr. Wen has 10 greenhouses and at first, he grew vegetables in the winter for his family to eat. Then several Russian travelling merchants bought tomatoes, cucumbers, and other off-season vegetables from him a month before Christmas in 2005. This business made Wen’s income double that year.
So he increased his production the next year and not only grew vegetables in the greenhouses, but also planted roses. As expected, his export of roses was even better than his vegetables.
