Natural hot springs get their heat from geothermal induction either in volcanic areas or from other natural geological means and have so for thousands of years. Man made hot springs are new water sources where wells are dug deep into the earth to utilize geothermal heat to raise the temperature of thewater to therapeutic levels. Both are considered hot springs but natural hot springs are more desirable for their abundance of trace elements.
Hot springs can be found all over the world and the term is used as often as the term spais to generically describe water therapy centers. However, hot springs are more specific intheir description and are often marketed as such. In China, the term wen quan is used which literally means hot spring when translated into English. In China where the hot springs industry is prevalent, wen quan or hot springs is the term that is most often used.
