Here the rough and rapid water of the Baishui River rushes down di-rectly from the cliffs to form waterfalls of 9 steps. The falls have a drop of 105.4 meters. From numerous whirling vortices the falls send out a thun-derous roar which can be heard from long distances. When the sun shines over the falls, the mist appears changeably colorful through refraction of the sun.
Huangguoshu Falls is listed in the national register of key scenic spots.
sites for viewing the falls have been provided:Guanpu Pavilion,Shuilian Cave and Tiansheng Bridge.
Guanpu Pavilion is buit for observation of the falls. The rough water,81meters wide, falls, roaring down from a 68-meter-high cliff. The big wa-ter column plunges into the Xiniu Pool and produces 10-meter-high sprays of waterfall. The river seems covered by a vast mist. With mountains, farms, forests and houses appearing vaguely as dream images. In summer a colorful rainbow arches in front of the falls. At this time the whole valley seems to be decorated with a piece of fine golden veil.
Shuiliang Cave is situated closely behind the fails. It is a cave construc-ted of several small natural ones, connected together.Openings in the ca-ves allow observation of the failing water.Thin as small pearls and thick as giant poles, the water pours down continuously.
Tiansheng Bridge is in the lower reaches of the falls.Above it extends a stone forest. The strange stones and rank trees give a sense of remote anfiquity. The stone forest is like a maze in complexify, creating a bewilder-ing labyrinth of endless passageways.
